ABOUT MISSION RESPECT

What is Mission Respect?

Mission Respect's aim is to improve self-image and self-esteem, to find a way to engage pupils in positive and constructive opportunities in education and in the local community. Also supporting the development and enhancement of literacy, numeracy, science and history in a creative way. Furthermore, Mission Respect will seek to affirm the value and self-worth of the individual, encouraging the children to realize that they have the skills to be valued and functioning members of society and to address issues of bullying, racism, attendance, homework, health and exams.

Mission Respect is an exciting initiative aimed at all age groups. The main objective of the project is to raise community awareness about the fun and the importance of learning through a series of fun interactive CD-ROM games designed to absorb, entertain and educate all in one go.

Reading Champion and Mentor

Paul Sleem, who was awarded the title of Reading Champion by the National Literacy Trust, has appeared on Radio 4 The Learning Curve and featured in the Times Educational Supplement, with the team has developed a new project to aid children with their reading by bringing fun and learning together.

Paul was appointed to promote reading and the notion that “It’s cool to read”, and to act as a Mentor to the pupils of New East Manchester Education Team. He has worked on a number of successful and innovative projects in East Manchester.

As a Reading Champion Paul goes into schools to encourage pupils to value the importance of reading and education in general and to support teachers in schools. This would involve liaising with the school and looking into any presenting difficulties that may be facing an individual pupil or issues in general within the whole school or year group.

Paul encourages pupils to see that reading is ‘cool’, and gives pupils the confidence they need to succeed; he is able to reach inside the pupils with the magical qualities of his persona. He has something very rare and special. A gift, which genuinely inspires and motivates the pupils, he uses his own relevant experience of inner city issues to support youngsters. Paul delivers a very unique and special experience, which will stay with the pupils for a long time.
